therapy? what you can expect

Starting therapy can feel like stepping into the unknown. Whether you’re seeking support for the first time or returning after a break, it’s natural to feel curious, uncertain, or even a little nervous. At New Moon Therapy, we believe in meeting you exactly where you are—with compassion, clarity, and care.

The First Session: Setting the Foundation

Your first session is all about getting to know one another. We’ll explore what brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the experience. You don’t need to have all the answers or explain everything perfectly. This is a safe space, and you can move at your own pace. We’ll also go over things like confidentiality, session structure, and what therapy looks like at New Moon. Think of it as the beginning of a collaborative journey. There is no right or wrong; you are allowed and encouraged to just be you.

Ongoing Sessions: A Space to Be Seen and Heard

Therapy sessions are your time. Each week or bi-weekly, we’ll meet in a consistent, supportive environment. We may talk about your current struggles, past experiences, patterns you’ve noticed, or emotions that feel hard to name.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here. Our work together will be guided by your needs and shaped by a therapeutic relationship built on trust. Sometimes we’ll explore deep feelings. Other times, it may be about developing practical tools to cope with stress, anxiety, or life transitions. Sometimes, we share a laugh, maybe even an inside joke or two.

Progress Isn’t Always Linear

Healing and growth are not about quick fixes. You might leave some sessions feeling lighter and others feeling stirred up. That’s all part of the process. What’s important is that you’re showing up, and I’ll be right there with you.

You’re Not Alone

Therapy is a powerful step toward caring for yourself. It’s a space where you can explore, reflect, and reconnect with support and without judgment. Whether you’re navigating relationships, identity, emotional challenges, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck, you’re not alone. You’re welcome here, and I would be honoured to be a safe space for you.
